Vroom, vroom!

Watch out road warriors, here comes Lucy! Now that her feet can finally reach the floor (just barely) while riding in the super cute car that Boogie and Aunt Katie picked out, Lucy is loving honking the horn and trying to scoot around. And from the looks of this video, it appears that someone has inherited momma's love of getting in the car with the windows rolled down and the music turned up while singing to her heart's content.

The guardian

No... not the cheesy 90s-era movie starring Kevin Costner and the diva formerly known as Ms. Whitney Houston, but a far better story starring our very own Evie. I got up to get ready for work last week and found her perched like this outside of Lucy's door. I couldn't tell if she was trying to protect "her baby" from intruders or was simply waiting for her to wake up and play, but either way it was pretty cute. Am so glad that my two best girls are getting to be such good friends. :)

Berry good

We've been taking full advantage of our mesh feeder (what a wonderful invention) to enjoy all sorts of summer fruits lately -- raspberry was the choice du jour in this picture. Yum!

War eagle!

We packed up after work last weekend and headed to Alabama to celebrate my father-in-law receiving a graduate degree from Auburn University. For the last few years Charlie has been pursuing an executive MBA in the heatlth care administration field while continuing to work full time, and much to the delight of his friends and family (especially Linda), he is finally finished! I visited Auburn several times in my undergraduate years to see my good friends Candace and Lisa who went to school there, but I had forgotten how charming the town and its people are.

Our visit was pretty short, but it was a nice one -- full of good food, pride for our PopPop, and lots of snuggle time for Lucy and those who love her so well. The commencement speaker was none other than Auburn alumni Bo Jackson, he of the 1990s football, baseball, and track & field fame. And while no one would dispute that "Bo knows" sports, he could use a little help in the speech writing department. :) We stayed at the campus hotel and were treated to a wave goodbye from Bo in his massive puck-up truck as we loaded up for the car ride home.

We are so proud of PopPop and his accomplishment -- what a wonderful reminder that we are never too old to broaden our horizons or to continue to grow and learn. Congratulations!!!

Here comes trouble

I'm a little frightened by how pleased Lucy is with herself in this picture. I caught her pulling up on the crib railing to look over the side after I'd set her inside it last week. I went off to run her bath water and this is the scene I returned to. :)

Our other recently acquired skill? She recently learned how to go back to a sitting position from crawling on her tummy. Look out world!

Fest For All

Baton Rouge Music Studios (the place where Andrew teaches private guitar lessons after school) had a booth and stage set up at this year's FestForAll arts & music festival, so Lucy and I packed up and went downtown to check it out after her afternoon nap.

The Studio's stage was set up on the beautiful lawn in front of the Old State Capitol and featured students that play different instruments coming together to perform in 7 Young Bands, a la "School of Rock". It was located beneath some gorgeous old oaks in the Children's Village of the festival and the Beatles tunes they covered were a big hit with the crowd.

Lucy and I enjoyed a picnic lunch of bananas and oatmeal in the shade...

and then she helped Daddy man the Studio tent where kids could come play (i.e., "bang") on keyboards, guitars, drums, etc.

We had a wonderful time even though the temperature was pushing 90 degrees, and finished up our afternoon by shooting some pictures of Lucy in the gardens of the state capitol (to follow) and dinner at Superior Grill. What a great way to spend a Saturday!

The tickle monster

Lucy's recently decided that she's ticklish, and she breaks out into squeals of delight when someone gets her really good. No one can "find her tickles" quite like Daddy. Take a peek of the tickle monster in action right before we left for our water babies class:
