"Tiger Bowl" 2008

Man, this LSU v. Auburn football game gets me fired up every year. It's always a good contest, usually with a dramatic ending for one of the two teams and this year was no exception! And... there's always the added element of bragging rights for the year over Lisa and Candace (and now Charlie, too) if we manage to come out on top. :)

While the Fighting Tigers pulled out a victory in the last few minutes of the game, I have to tip my hat to a game well-played by the Auburn Tigers/Plainsmen/Big Blue/War Eagles (or whatever the heck their mascot is). We enjoyed the showdown on a giant outdoor screen at a fun neighborhood bbq while eating great food, making new friends, and enjoying the nice weather. A truly winning combination -- love SEC football on a fall Saturday night!

Head held high

Lucy's steady working on holding her head up without resembling one of those bobble head toys. And although we generally hate tummy time, I was able to catch Lucy in action at her favorite location (the changing table) during her favorite time (after a bath). We're almost there!

Rock & roll pajamas

I love these little footie pajamas -- I feel they accurately represent how Lucy fully embraces the rock & roll lifestyle, just like her guitar-loving daddy! When I went to put the pjs on after our bath the other day, they felt pretty snug (our girl is getting big so fast!) so I grabbed a few pictures before they're gone for good. And thanks to my prop staging, we have our first shots of Lucy sitting up "on her own" in the nursery rocker.

Top Ten Reasons Hurricane Season is Like Christmas

From an e-mail that's been circulating around after Gustav tore up Baton Rouge:

10. Decorating the house (boarding up windows).

9. Dragging out boxes that haven't been used since last season (camping gear, flashlights).

8. Last minute shopping in crowded stores.

7. Regular TV shows pre-empted for "specials".

6. Family coming to stay with you.

5. Family and friends from out-of-state calling.

4. Buying food you don't normally buy ... and in large quantities.

3. Days off from work.

2. Candles.

and the number one reason hurricane season is like Christmas. . . .

1. At some point you know you're going to have a tree in your house!

We will

"Every good and perfect gift is from above..." ~James 1:17

This weekend we celebrated Lucy's baptism surrounded by our friends and family members at Grace Community UMC in Shreveport. It was an incredibly emotional experience for me and a sobering reminder that Andrew & I are to be Lucy's godly examples in this world -- a huge undertaking to be sure. Parenthood is a much more awe-inspiring and daunting experience than either of us knew we were signing up for, and I know we'll need constant guidance from above to lead our good and perfect gift in the right direction.

Newest Tigers fan

Lucy says... GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Today was Tiger Tailgate Day at UBC Child Development Center so we brought some purple and gold cupcakes to share with our new friends and donned our super cute Mike the Tiger outfit (thanks Tia Gabby!). Can't wait until tomorrow afternoon when a whole new season of Bayou Bengal football begins...

Sip and see

We had such a big weekend! Tia Gabby came to visit us all the way from California. It was her first chance to meet Lucy and she did great with her! "Favorite" and Pop also came to see us from Shreveport, and we all had a great time catching up and enjoying some seafood. On Saturday, we attended our first party -- a "sip and see" at Emily Ellis Welch's parents home in Baton Rouge for six-month-old Audrey. We also got to meet another new friend, Cooper Feirman. It's so much fun to have friends with little ones about the same age as Lucy and it will be a joy to see them grow up together.
