Rubber ducky, you're the one

Lucy has outgrown her baby bathtub, but is still too little (and too slippery!) for the "big tub", so inflatible ducky bathtub it is! She sits up in it beautifully and has a lot of fun playing with the bath toys and splashing around. And as an added bonus, the beak of the ducky quacks when you press it. Too cute! We love bath time.

Look who's talking

Andrew suggested that this post should be called "Dadaism." :)

Lucy is talking up a storm now and it's pretty much all "da da" all the time in the Powers home right now. Of course, Daddy is over the moon with this new development even though she's not even remotely saying it in association with her father. She wakes up chatting and is still going when I pick her up from daycare in the afternoon. She's obviously very delighted with her recently developed verbal talents so it's a blast to watch her when she gets going. Here's a sneak peek (sorry for the thumb sucking close-up in the middle).

And they call it puppy love...

Lucy loves her "puppy" Evie -- gets all smiling and bounces up and down while squealing when she's around. And Evie loves her right back, always ready to plant her cold nose and wet tongue on Lucy's neck (usually around the ear area). As a testament to Evie's true devotion, she even licked up a runny pool of Lucy's spit up after an especially gross incident lately. :)

Evie jumped up on the bed while I was taking pictures of Lucy sitting up like a big girl, so I finally got some shots of them together. Of course I had the camera off when Lucy leaned forward and put both her arms around Evie in a hug. It was so sweet! At times it's really hard keeping up with the demands of a dog on top of caring for a house, job, husband, and baby, but... seeing the two of them enjoying each other's company keeps me going because I know Lucy and her puppy will be best friends for a long time to come.

He got game

Andrew has experienced a bit of a hard year trying to get the new band program at his middle school off the ground. In addition to the school having been without a music program of any sort for about 8 years, the kids have to share their instruments because there are not enough to go around and they can't afford to buy them (and therefore can't take them home to practice), several of kids seem to find themselves in trouble or suspended every week... You get the idea.

So, it was really fun to get to see Mr. Powers and his kids in action this week -- they were the featured entertainment afterschool during halftime of the girls and boys basketball games. I took off a little early from work and snatched Lucy from daycare so we could catch Daddy in action. He did a great job and his students had a lot of fun and seemed super proud of themselves. It might have been their only chance to perform this year, so I'm really glad we got to be there.

Our house is a very, very, very fine house

Lucy loves to play with her new house -- especially now that she can sit up by herself long enough to push the doorbell, open the mailbox, and drop balls down the rain chute all by herself (well... almost!). She recently invited Daddy over to play. :)
